Home Lifts From Your Local Installer
We’re based in Darwen, so Blackburn and Darwen are home ground for us. We know the houses, from the mill-town terraces to the larger homes on the edge of the moors, and we’re never far away if you need us after the lift is in.
We supply and install home lifts for people who want to keep living in the house they know. Every job starts with a survey, because the house decides what will work.

Terraced Houses Across Both Towns
Stone and brick terraces make up much of Blackburn and Darwen. They’re solid houses, but floor space is limited and the stairs are often steep and narrow. A compact through-floor lift, from the front room into a bedroom above, is usually the most practical option. We’ll find the position that leaves both rooms usable, rather than just the one that’s easiest to fit.
Houses Built Into the Hillside
Darwen and parts of Blackburn are built on steep ground, so many houses have an extra floor at the back, or a front door a flight of steps above the street. A lift can link the floors inside, and sometimes the levels outside too. We’ll look at how you get into the house as well as how you get upstairs, as the outside steps are often half the problem.
Home Lift Options
In a terraced house, a compact through-floor lift is usually the answer. In larger homes, there’s room for a platform lift that takes a wheelchair and serves more than two floors. We’ll talk through what fits your house.
Larger Homes in Lammack, Beardwood and Whitehall
The bigger semis and detached houses around Lammack, Beardwood, Revidge and Darwen’s Whitehall area usually give us more choice. Wider hallways and landings can take a larger lift, including one big enough for a wheelchair and a carer. Where there’s space, a platform lift can serve three floors without taking a room.
Why Choosing a Local Company Matters
A home lift needs servicing, and now and again it’ll need a repair. Because our engineers are based a few miles away, we can usually get to you quickly. You’ll also be dealing with the same people who fitted the lift, so there’s no handover to a call centre once it’s installed.
Planning Ahead
If the stairs are starting to get harder, it’s worth looking at a lift before it becomes urgent. You’ll have time to choose the right lift, plan any building work and look into funding, rather than making decisions in a hurry after a fall or a stay in hospital.
Disabled Facilities Grants in Blackburn with Darwen
Blackburn with Darwen Council runs both adult social care and Disabled Facilities Grants, so the occupational therapy assessment and the grant application go through the same council. Ask for an occupational therapy assessment first, as the grant depends on it. Don’t start work before the grant is approved. If you’re paying privately and the lift is for someone with a long-term disability, it should be zero-rated for VAT.

Frequently Asked questions
Can we keep our stairlift as well as having a home lift?
Sometimes. If the stairlift serves a different flight, for example up to a loft, it can stay. If both serve the same floors, most people take the stairlift out.
Can a home lift be fitted where a stairlift won’t go?
Often, yes. Very narrow or winding stairs can rule out a stairlift, but a through-floor lift doesn’t use the stairs at all.
Do you need to see the house before giving a price?
Not always. If you can send photos and a few measurements, we can often quote without a visit. If we do need to see it, the survey is free.
Will the lift leave the stairs usable for everyone else?
Yes. Unlike a stairlift, a home lift doesn’t take up any space on the stairs.
Can a home lift help with getting into the house as well?
Sometimes. A step lift or platform lift outside can deal with steps up to the front door, and we can look at that at the same survey.
