Lift Engineers for Preston and Central Lancashire
Preston has a lot of lifts working hard: student accommodation, city-centre offices, apartment blocks and busy public buildings. We service, repair and modernise lifts across the city and the surrounding area, working out of our base in Darwen.
We’re an independent company and maintain all the major makes of lift.

Student Accommodation
Lifts in student blocks see far more journeys than lifts in a typical office, and they take more knocks. Doors get forced, buttons get damaged and the lift is expected to work at 3am as well as 3pm. We set service visits to match that level of use and keep common parts in stock where we can.
Use the Summer
In student accommodation, the summer break is the best chance to carry out bigger work like door upgrades, controller replacement or a full modernisation. If your report or our service visits have flagged work that needs the lift out of action for a while, we’ll plan it for June to August and have it finished before the new intake arrives.
City-centre Offices
Office lifts are judged by how long people wait. If your lift has become slow or unreliable, the cause is often an ageing controller or worn door equipment rather than the whole lift. We can upgrade these parts to bring performance back up, often with the lift out of action for days rather than weeks.
Apartment Blocks and Managing Agents
For managing agents, a lift is a common source of complaints and a regular line on the service charge. We give you clear records, straightforward quotes and plain-English explanations of any defects, so you can explain them to leaseholders.
LOLER Examinations
Lifts carrying people must be thoroughly examined by a competent person at least every six months, usually your insurer’s engineer surveyor. If their report lists defects, we’ll price them, agree a timescale with you and get them done.
Breakdown Repairs
Most breakdowns are caused by doors, then levelling and controller faults. We’ll tell you when an engineer will get to you and keep you updated, including if parts need to be ordered.

Frequently Asked questions
What's the difference between centre-opening and side-opening lift doors?
Centre-opening doors open from the middle and are quicker, which suits busy buildings. Side-opening doors slide to one side and fit narrower shafts.
What is destination control?
Passengers enter their floor before getting in, and the system groups people going to similar floors into the same lift. It cuts waiting and journey times in busy buildings with several lifts.
How can we cut our lift's energy use?
LED car lighting, standby modes that switch off lighting and fans when the lift is idle, and modern variable-speed drives all help. On larger lifts, regenerative drives can feed energy back into the building.
What is a VVVF drive?
A variable voltage, variable frequency drive controls the motor’s speed smoothly. Fitting one to an older lift gives a more comfortable ride, more accurate floor stops and lower energy use.
Who pays for lift repairs in a leasehold block?
Usually the leaseholders, through the service charge, as set out in the leases. If major works will cost any leaseholder more than £250, the landlord must consult them first under Section 20 of the Landlord and Tenant Act 1985.
What is a sinking fund for a lift?
A sinking fund is money set aside in the service charge for big future costs, like modernising or replacing the lift, so leaseholders don’t face one large bill.
How long does a LOLER examination take?
It usually takes an hour or two per lift, depending on the type of lift and what the examiner needs to check. The lift is out of use while it’s examined.
Who pays for the lift alarm line?
The phone line or SIM and the 24-hour monitoring service are often charged separately from the maintenance contract. Check who’s responsible so the alarm isn’t left disconnected.
