Leyland Golf Club – Lift Modernisation

2 stop passenger lift refurbishment at Leyland Golf Club

Leyland Golf ClubLeyland Golf Club is a well-established venue, welcoming members and visitors throughout the year. As with any busy and regularly used building, ensuring safe, reliable and accessible movement between floors is an important part of maintaining the facilities and providing a positive experience for everyone using the club.

The existing two-stop Schindler Smartlift had provided many years of service but, like all ageing lift equipment, some of its key components were becoming increasingly dated. Older control systems and associated equipment can create challenges when faults occur, particularly where replacement parts are becoming more difficult to source. This can result in longer periods of downtime and increased costs when repairs are required.

Rather than recommending the complete replacement of the lift, TJ Lift Solutions proposed a targeted partial lift refurbishment. The aim was to retain suitable elements of the existing installation whilst replacing the critical components responsible for the lift’s operation, control, safety and reliability.

This approach offered Leyland Golf Club a practical and cost-effective solution, helping to modernise the existing Schindler Smartlift and extend its operational life without the disruption and expense associated with a full lift replacement.

The Solution

The refurbishment focused on replacing the key mechanical and electrical components of the two-stop lift system. At the heart of the project was the installation of a new traction lift controller, providing a modern and reliable control platform for the lift.

To ensure accurate and dependable travel between the two floors, a new encoder positioning system was installed to work alongside the new controller. New shaft switches and stop buttons were provided where required, together with a full system re-wire and new containment where necessary.

The car top equipment was also upgraded with the installation of a new Car Top Control Station, allowing engineers to safely carry out inspection, maintenance and fault-finding activities. A new car operating panel was fitted, complete with a full-height stainless steel backplate to provide a neat and professional finish where the existing COP had been removed. The loose car side on the COP side was also refixed as part of the refurbishment works.

Door safety and operation formed another important part of the project. The lift received new full-height infra-red car door safety edges, where required, along with a new car door operator to improve the reliability and safe operation of the entrance doors.

New landing push stations were installed at both floors, providing updated and dependable passenger controls. The emergency communication system was also modernised with the installation of a new GSM autodialler, supplied with a three-year, pre-paid, open-network SIM card.

To improve energy efficiency and visibility, new LED lighting was installed within the lift car, including emergency battery backup. A new LED shaft lighting system was also provided. All displaced and redundant equipment was removed from site and responsibly disposed of following completion of the works.

The Outcome

The completed partial refurbishment has given the two-stop Schindler Smartlift at Leyland Golf Club a significant upgrade in reliability, safety and maintainability.

One of the key benefits of the project is the introduction of modern, open-protocol equipment. This means that readily available components can be sourced more easily in the event of a future breakdown, helping to reduce potential delays and improve the long-term serviceability of the lift.

The new traction controller also includes an LCD fault logger and diagnostic capabilities, with remote access available to assist with setup, maintenance and fault finding. These features provide valuable support for engineers and can help identify issues more efficiently, reducing the time required to diagnose faults.

By replacing the lift’s ageing control, positioning, door and safety equipment, whilst retaining suitable elements of the existing installation, Leyland Golf Club has benefited from a carefully considered refurbishment solution that delivers improved performance without the cost of a complete lift replacement.

The project demonstrates how a partial lift refurbishment can be an effective alternative for older installations where the lift structure and core equipment remain suitable for continued use. The new equipment is also supplied with a 12-month warranty, providing additional reassurance and confidence in the upgraded system.

With improved reliability, modern diagnostics, enhanced door safety and more readily available replacement parts, the refurbished lift is now better equipped to provide dependable service for Leyland Golf Club for years to come.
