Barrow Village Hall, Platform Lift

The derelict building in Barrow, Whalley, Lancashire was purchased by the local council with the vision of transforming it into a vibrant new village hall and community hub. The redevelopment aimed to bring the building back into public use, providing flexible spaces for meetings, events and local activities.

To make full use of both floors of the property, accessibility for all users was a key requirement. The council needed an affordable platform lift solution that would integrate neatly within the design constraints of the existing structure, while offering reliability, energy efficiency and ease of use for visitors of all ages and abilities.

The Solution

TJ Lift Solutions were approached to assess the building and recommend a suitable product that met both the physical limitations and functional needs of the project. After carrying out a detailed site survey and consultation with the project team, the Cibes A5000 platform lift was selected as the ideal solution.

The Cibes A5000 offered a compact footprint and modular design, making it particularly suitable for retrofit installations where space is limited. It requires minimal building works and comes with its own shaft, simplifying installation and reducing costs.

A two-stop configuration was specified, with both entrances located on the same side, allowing the lift to be seamlessly positioned within the newly constructed staircase. The installation was carried out efficiently by TJ Lift Solutions’ engineers, ensuring the lift blended with the interior design and complied fully with accessibility standards.

The Outcome

The completed installation has transformed the accessibility of the new Barrow Village Hall. The Cibes platform lift now provides smooth and reliable access between floors, ensuring all members of the community – including wheelchair users, parents with pushchairs, and those with limited mobility – can enjoy the entire building without restriction.

This affordable and modern lift solution not only enhances the functionality of the space but also supports the council’s long-term goal of creating an inclusive and welcoming facility for residents. Thanks to the careful planning and installation by TJ Lift Solutions, the building is now fully accessible for years to come.
