Lift Engineers for Lancaster and Morecambe
Lancaster is a city of universities, hospitals and historic stone buildings, with Morecambe and Heysham alongside. We maintain and repair lifts across the district, travelling up the M6 from our base in Darwen and planning visits into regular rounds.
We’re independent and work on all the major makes.

University and Research Buildings
Campus lifts carry students, staff and equipment between lecture theatres, labs and accommodation. We work with estates teams to schedule servicing around the academic calendar and save larger work for the breaks.
Healthcare Buildings
Lifts in hospitals and health centres carry patients, beds and equipment. Health Technical Memorandum 08-02 gives the guidance for lifts in healthcare buildings, and we plan our work with your estates team to keep the lifts available.
Historic City-centre Buildings
Much of central Lancaster is in a conservation area, with plenty of listed buildings. Fitting or upgrading a lift here means working within strict limits on what can change. We’ll recommend equipment that needs as little alteration as possible and help you plan around consents.
Servicing and LOLER
We set service frequencies from the manufacturer’s instructions and how much the lift is used. Lifts carrying people need a LOLER thorough examination at least every six months, normally by your insurer. We’ll carry out any repairs the report asks for.
Repairs and Modernisation
Door faults cause most breakdowns, followed by levelling and controller problems. For older lifts, we’ll explain the options honestly, from targeted upgrades to full replacement.

Frequently Asked questions
Can a lift be taken out of general use to move equipment?
Yes. An independent service switch lets staff take control of the lift so it doesn’t stop at other floors while equipment is moved.
Can a lift be fitted inside an existing stairwell?
Sometimes, if the stairs are wide enough and the building’s fire strategy allows it. A survey will confirm.
What information should an estates team get from its lift contractor?
An asset list, service records, LOLER reports, defect logs and condition notes that help plan future spending.
Are glass lifts harder to maintain?
They need more cleaning and regular checks of the glass, but the mechanical maintenance is much the same as any other lift.
What's the difference between listed building consent and planning permission?
Listed building consent covers changes to a listed building’s character, inside or out. Planning permission covers development more generally. A lift in a listed building may need both.
Can hospital lifts be prioritised for emergency teams?
Yes. Bed lifts can be fitted with priority switches so clinical teams can take control of the lift for urgent moves.
What is a lift condition survey?
It’s an inspection of the lift’s condition and remaining life that helps you plan budgets for repairs, modernisation or replacement.
Can a lift keep running during building refurbishment?
Yes, with planning. Protect the car and doors, agree who can use it, and keep servicing going throughout.
